Winter Park Art Festival 2011 / Winter Park, Florida

I attended the Winter Park art festival this year as an exhibiting artist. The show was packed with attendees and lots of talented artists. I posted some pictures of the work I showed and a shot  of my booth.

I was fortunate enough to win an award of distinction and sell some work. What a wonderful experience.

Rusted Steel Vessel

Rusted Steel Vessel
Rusted Steel Vessel

This is a steel vessel that I have recenlty completed. Welded steel combined with found objects makes this piece really cool. The cap comes off (see inset pic) but it won’t hold any liquid. It stands 16 inches tall and has been carefully patineated giving it a distinct weathered copper appearance.  I hope this finds a good home. It is truly beautiful. Bring any offers you like. Barters, etc.

Three miscellaneous Items

Here are three pieces all of which are finished, none of which have shown anywhere. You may be thinking, “What an odd assortment!!? Why would you have a baby rattle, a vase, and a knife all together? Are you making some kind of statement? Are you being controversial?”  The answer is none of the above.  The rattle is a gift for my friends Josh and Jen’s new little baby Faerin, the vase ( 8.25 inches tall) came to me while drifting in and out of  sleep, and the knife (12 inches long) I have wanted to make for quite some time.

The second two are available.

“Twisted Toys” at Arton Central /Saturday, November 20th

I am in the Twisted Toys show at Arton Central Gallery this Saturday, November 20th. The piece was done by me and John Vitale.  John has no limit to his ability to create.  I was making this piece and knew it needed more.  I called John and he showed up at my studio and he just knew what it needed.  He took it and brought it back a day or two later all painted. It was his idea to start with a newly painted toy and then distress it. He is a pretty bright guy. We took turns distressing him employing what might be considered unconventional methods. In other words, right up our alley. The result speaks volumes.

His name is Drew. I named him after Drew Daywalt the filmaker. He makes the most amazing horror films. Some are short, some are longer, but be assured this guy will scare you. He tells storys. Even if the film is 30 seconds, I have never watched one needing anything more. He has a Youtube channel. Google him and be impressed as hell like I am.

The Twisted Toys show is at Arton Central. The address is 645 Central Avenue  in downtown St. Pete. It runs from 7:00 to whenever Zack says to get out. Come on by and see all of the work. Sarah Thee CampagnaCalan Ree and Jennifer Kosharek are talented artists showing their work. Individually, all three of them are very big deals. Together, they can conquer the world… so be nice to them, it could work in your favor later on.

Artful Living’s “Under The Bed” / Friday, October 29th

I am in the “Under the Bed” show at Artful Living in Downtown St. Petersburg.  My piece is what I hear creaking, sqeaking, riding around my floor late at night. I made him a long time ago after I salvaged parts of him from a dumpster. Little did I know then that his appetite for play was insatiable.  I kept him in my house on the lower level.  Sometimes I would hear noises in the night and figure it was my dog getting a drink of water or the people on the other half of the duplex walking around… until they moved out and the noises continued.

I would put him in the corner just so people wouldn’t trip on him when visiting. Then one morning I got up to make breakfast and he was in the middle of the kitchen. Maybe he got hungry.

One night I got up to use the bathroom and while  returning to my bed, found him blocking the door to my bedroom. He wanted to play. I nearly jumped out of my skin… I moved him to the studio the next day.

He is quite active in the studio, I have yet to find him in the same place twice. I don’t think he is very happy with me though.

He’s in the show, “Under the Bed” on October 29th at Artful Living. Come pay him a visit and hope he doesen’t take a liking to you and follow you home.

“Pipe Dreams” at The Collective / 600 Block of Central Ave / October 30th

I was happy to be invited to participate in the “Pipe Dreams” show at  The Collective gallery and tattoo shop on the 600 block of Central Avenue in downtown St. Petersburg.  There are a bunch of very talented glass artists showing their skill and talent at the show. Josh Poll and Scott Baker to name just a few.  My piece (see photo) is a mixture of reclaimed precious rusty bits as well as new metal. It has a bit of a steampunk feel, but it is all Strunk. I don’t do steampunk, it is way over my head.

For more info go to http://collectivetattoo.com/

The opening runs from 7-11 pm on Saturday, the 30th. Come on by and say howdy.

Creative Loafing “Best of the Bay” award

I was awarded a “Loafie” award for Best Wearable Art by Creative Loafing magazine for my “Industrial Chic” fashion. I was nice to win again, I have won it two times prior and it is always nice to get some recognition for hard work.  It did make me aware of the “big fish” thing that can happen if i were to get caught up in it.  It is was my final show at the Dunedin wearable art show. I will be pursuing shows both national and international with my fashion work.

Here are a few pics from that night.

Station Number Three Opening / September 11th 2010

I will be showing at a new gallery in St. Petersburg on September 11, 2010. This is the inaugural show for this gallery. I will be showing some of my new work as well as a few pieces that have shown once here in St. Pete. The other artists in the show are heavy hitters in my view. It promises to be a good show.
